The castle-like house on Washington Street in South Bend is quietly finding its second life.
Built around 1888 to 1890 for South Bend businessman William L. Kizer and his wife, Elizabeth, the 7,220-square-foot Romanesque Revival mansion's exterior was rescued by Indiana Landmarks. In 2022, the property passed to a father-and-son team who continue the work as a community-forward restoration for a café, gathering place, and apartments.
